The contributions to this issue of Ranam deal with the notions of accents, variation(s) and representation, examining the broad issue of variation from the point of view of diachronic, sociolinguistic, and textual change seen through its linguistic representation. The studies rely on diverse theories, empirical observation, and the use of technical tools and show the significance of the socio-cultural context in which the phenomena under scrutiny occur (accents, varieties, notional construction, reported clauses, proverbs). The whole volume testifies to a relative stability in linguistic practices, be they descriptive, pragmatic or formal, integrating the tools of corpus linguistics.
